Can You Import a Nissan Juke from Thailand to Kenya?

Nissan Juke from Thailand to Kenya? Import may be possible if this exact car meets Kenya’s age, right-hand-drive and inspection rules. A Thai seller’s location alone does not prove eligibility. Before paying, verify the VIN, first-registration year, steering layout and KEBS inspection route for that vehicle.

What must a Nissan Juke from Thailand meet?

KRA says an imported used vehicle must be less than eight years old from its year of first registration, right-hand drive, and inspected for roadworthiness by a KEBS-appointed agent in the country of export. KEBS lists Thailand among countries with a motor-vehicle inspection arrangement. Confirm the active agent and required Certificate of Roadworthiness with KEBS before shipment; do not assume a missing certificate can be fixed after arrival.

CheckEvidence to requestWhy it matters
AgeThai registration record showing first-registration yearKenya’s age limit is based on first registration, not the advert’s model year.
SteeringClear dashboard and steering-wheel photos; verify the physical carThe vehicle must be right-hand drive.
InspectionKEBS-approved inspection appointment and valid Certificate of RoadworthinessThe inspection must follow the current route for vehicles exported from Thailand.
IdentityVIN/chassis number matching the car, registration, invoice and export papersA mismatch can delay clearance or undermine the sale.

What should you verify before paying the Thai seller?

  1. Ask for the full VIN, first-registration record, Thai registration document, service history and export paperwork.
  2. Check the VIN on the vehicle against every document. Have an independent inspector examine accident repairs, corrosion or water ingress, odometer consistency, warning lights and mechanical condition.
  3. Send the VIN and documents to the KEBS inspection contact and confirm the active Thai inspection agent, required certificate, appointment and fees in writing.
  4. Get a written landed-cost estimate from a licensed customs clearing agent using the exact engine, fuel type, first-registration year and VIN. Include the purchase price, inspection, inland transport in Thailand, freight, insurance, port charges, clearance and registration.

Which import documents will you need?

KRA lists the original commercial invoice, cancelled original logbook from the country of import, original bill of lading, roadworthiness certificate and importer PIN documents among the supporting paperwork. From 1 September 2026, importers must also obtain and retain an export declaration, export entry, customs export certificate or equivalent from the country of export for at least five years. Agree with the seller in writing who will obtain the Thai export document and check that its vehicle and transaction details match your other papers.

How much does importing a Nissan Juke from Thailand cost?

There is no reliable flat price for every Juke. Customs value, engine capacity, fuel type, vehicle age and current tax treatment affect the calculation. Ask the agent for an itemised estimate tied to the exact vehicle, then confirm it against KRA’s current motor-vehicle valuation guidance before committing. Treat unusually low shipping or tax quotes as a reason to ask for the assumptions and exclusions.

Frequently asked questions

Does every Nissan Juke sold in Thailand qualify for Kenya?

No. The specific car still has to satisfy the age and right-hand-drive rules and carry the inspection and export documents required for its route.

Can I ship the car before the KEBS inspection?

Confirm the required inspection and certificate with KEBS first. Do not ship based only on a seller’s promise that paperwork can be arranged later.

How long will the import take?

Timing depends on inspection booking, document readiness, vessel schedules and customs clearance. Ask the inspector and shipping company for current dates and leave room for delays; a generic week range is not a guarantee.
