Can You Import a Nissan Juke from Korea to Kenya? Check RHD

Guidance checked 4 October 2026. Importing a Nissan Juke from Korea to Kenya starts with checking the exact car’s steering position, first-registration year and inspection route. KRA’s ordinary used-vehicle route requires RHD, an age of less than eight years from first registration, and roadworthiness inspection by a KEBS-appointed agent in the country of export. South Korea drives on the right; that does not prove the steering position of a particular Juke. Ask for its VIN and original registration record before paying.

What should you verify before buying a Juke in South Korea?

CheckEvidence to requestDecision
SteeringClear cabin photos and a VIN-linked inspection report showing the steering wheel on the right.Do not assume a conversion qualifies.
AgeOriginal registration record showing the first-registration year.Compare it with KRA’s current limit before purchase.
RoadworthinessConfirmation that a KEBS-appointed vehicle inspector can inspect it in South Korea.Confirm the exact agent and certificate before shipping.
Export recordExport declaration, export entry, customs export certificate or equivalent from South Korea.Check that the record matches the Juke and importer details.

Does a Korean Nissan Juke meet Kenya’s RHD rule?

South Korea uses right-side traffic. Do not infer a car’s steering position from the country, advert, or seller’s description. Ask for a clear dashboard and driver-seat photo, then have an independent inspector confirm the wheel position and match the VIN to the registration papers.

KRA’s standard used-import procedure says the vehicle must be RHD. If the Juke is left-hand drive, pause. Do not rely on a seller’s promise that a conversion or a special exception will be accepted. Ask KRA or a licensed Kenyan customs clearing agent for written advice about the exact vehicle before sending money.

Which Korean export and Kenya import documents should you request?

Ask the seller or exporter for the original registration or ownership record, a sale invoice, the export or deregistration documents that apply to that car, and the shipping bill of lading when issued. Match the VIN, seller, buyer, vehicle description and price across the paperwork. Ask how any finance or lien has been cleared. If the vehicle has prior accident, flood, salvage or import history, obtain records that let your inspector verify it independently.

Since 1 September 2026, KRA says importers must obtain and retain an export declaration, export entry, customs export certificate or equivalent document from the country of export. It should show the exporter, importer, goods description, quantity, value, tariff classification and country of export. Keep it for at least five years and produce it if KRA requests it. Ask for this export record before shipment, not after the vehicle reaches Mombasa.

How do inspection, clearance and the landed-cost estimate work?

KRA requires roadworthiness inspection by a KEBS-appointed agent in the export country. Contact KEBS to confirm which currently appointed provider handles used-vehicle inspections in South Korea and what documents it will issue. A general PVoC contractor list may cover other goods; confirm the used-car route specifically before booking.

For Kenya clearance, KRA lists documents such as the commercial invoice, original country logbook or registration record, bill of lading and pre-shipment roadworthiness certificate. Ask a licensed clearing agent to confirm the current checklist for your Juke. Request an itemised estimate using its VIN, first-registration year, engine and exact variant. Include purchase and export costs, inspection, freight and insurance, port charges, customs valuation and taxes, clearing, registration and any repairs. Avoid relying on old online tax percentages or a generic shipping quote.

What export document is now required?

From 1 September 2026, KRA requires an export declaration, export entry, customs export certificate or equivalent from the country of export. The record must support the import and be retained for at least five years.
