A Nissan Juke from the UAE to Kenya may be eligible for import only if the exact vehicle meets Kenya’s eligibility and inspection rules. Confirm the first-registration date, steering position and KEBS inspection route before paying a deposit. A seller’s UAE location does not establish that the car can be registered in Kenya.

What must you confirm before paying for a UAE Nissan Juke?

KRA requires a used vehicle to be under eight years old from its year of first registration, right-hand drive and inspected by a KEBS-appointed agent in the country of export. Ask for documents and clear photos of the actual car, then match every identifier to the VIN.

KEBS publishes motor-vehicle inspection details and lists an inspection center in Dubai. Confirm directly with KEBS or the listed agent that the center and certificate are valid for the exact Juke and shipment date. Do not assume a vehicle can be inspected after it reaches Kenya.

Which UAE export documents should accompany the car?

For a Juke registered in Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority’s export process cancels the Dubai registration and issues an Export Certificate. The process asks for the destination and shipping method. If the vehicle is registered in another emirate, ask the relevant traffic authority there which export and deregistration documents it issues; Dubai RTA does not cover every emirate.

For Kenyan clearance, KRA lists supporting documents such as the original commercial invoice, cancelled original logbook, original bill of lading, pre-shipment roadworthiness certificate and the importer’s PIN documents. KRA’s documents page also lists a certificate of origin, while its later notice says used motor vehicles covered by the Fifth Schedule to EACCMA may be exempt from mandatory certificate-of-origin submission. Confirm with your licensed clearing agent whether this Juke qualifies; do not assume every used vehicle has the same treatment. Separately, from 1 September 2026, importers must obtain and keep an export declaration, export entry, customs export certificate or equivalent from the country of export for at least five years. Ask your agent which papers apply and keep copies before the vehicle is loaded.

How do you estimate the landed cost?

Do not rely on an old “average UAE price” or a single duty percentage. The Juke’s year, first-registration date, engine, fuel type, customs valuation and current tax rules affect the calculation. Ask a licensed clearing agent for an itemised estimate tied to the VIN and exact specification. Include the purchase price, UAE inspection and export costs, transport to port, freight, insurance, port charges, applicable taxes, clearance and registration. KRA provides a motor-vehicle valuation template; ask the agent to show which valuation and rates were used.

What should you check before the car is shipped?

  1. Send the VIN and registration details to your clearing agent and the KEBS-appointed inspection contact. Confirm age, right-hand drive and certificate requirements in writing.
  2. Arrange an independent condition inspection. Check accident repairs, odometer history, air conditioning, cooling system, tyres, warning lights and service records; KEBS roadworthiness is not a substitute for a buyer’s mechanical inspection.
  3. Match the export certificate, cancelled registration, invoice, any applicable origin documentation, export declaration and bill of lading to the same vehicle and parties.
  4. Get a written landed-cost estimate and clear sale terms before sending the balance. Confirm who handles export, shipping and any refund if the vehicle fails a required check.

Frequently asked questions

Can I import a left-hand-drive Nissan Juke from the UAE?

KRA’s standard rule requires a right-hand-drive vehicle. Do not buy a left-hand-drive Juke assuming a conversion or exception will be accepted; obtain written guidance from KRA before committing.

Does every UAE vehicle use Dubai’s export process?

No. Dubai RTA handles vehicles registered in Dubai. For a vehicle registered in another emirate, confirm the export process with that emirate’s traffic authority.

Can the Juke be shipped before KEBS inspection?

Confirm the applicable pre-export inspection and certificate with KEBS before shipment. The current KRA procedure calls for inspection in the country of export.
