Can You Import a Nissan Juke from Germany to Kenya?

Importing a Nissan Juke from Germany to Kenya may be possible, but the specific vehicle must meet Kenya’s age, steering and roadworthiness rules. Before paying a deposit, get written confirmation of the KEBS inspection route for that car’s VIN. Germany appears in KEBS’s general inspection-contractor directory, while its dedicated used-vehicle page lists a different set of markets. Do not treat a general contractor listing as proof that a used Juke has the required roadworthiness certificate.

Does a Nissan Juke from Germany meet Kenya’s import rules?

KRA says a used vehicle must be less than eight years old from its year of first registration, be right-hand drive and undergo roadworthiness inspection by a KEBS-appointed agent in the country of export. The car must also meet the applicable KS 1515 standard. Check the actual vehicle and its records; a model year or seller description is not enough. See the KRA motor-vehicle import procedure.

Which KEBS inspection route applies to a used Juke from Germany?

KEBS’s dedicated used-vehicle contractor page names Japan, Singapore, South Africa, Thailand, the UAE and the UK for QISJ inspections. Germany is not in that list. KEBS’s broader PVoC contractor directory does list SGS in Germany, but that listing alone does not confirm that SGS can issue the used-vehicle Certificate of Roadworthiness required for this Juke.

Send the VIN and intended shipping details to KEBS and the proposed inspection agent. Ask which contractor, certificate and inspection sequence they will accept for a used car exported from Germany, and request the answer in writing before purchase or shipment. If destination inspection is required, read KEBS’s destination-inspection guidance and agree who pays if the car fails: KEBS says rejected goods may have to be re-shipped or destroyed at the importer’s expense.

Which German export and Kenyan clearance documents should you obtain?

Ask the seller or shipper for the German registration and export paperwork, commercial invoice and proof of the export declaration. Match the VIN, seller, buyer and vehicle description across those papers. KRA’s vehicle procedure lists documents such as the original invoice, cancelled original logbook, original bill of lading, roadworthiness certificate and importer PIN documents.

A separate document rule has applied since 1 September 2026: KRA says importers must obtain an export declaration, export entry, customs export certificate or equivalent from the country of export and keep it for at least five years. The record should identify the exporter, importer and goods. Keep the German export record with the invoice, inspection certificate and shipping documents; see KRA’s Finance Act 2026 import-document guidance.

KRA’s certificate-of-origin notice says used goods, including used motor vehicles covered by the Fifth Schedule to EACCMA, may be exempt from mandatory COO submission. Confirm whether this Juke qualifies with your licensed clearing agent. That question is separate from the export-document retention rule.

How should you estimate the landed cost from Germany?

Do not rely on a generic Juke price, shipping estimate or single duty percentage. Ask a licensed clearing agent for an itemised estimate tied to the VIN, first-registration date, engine and exact specification. It should show the purchase price, German inspection and export charges, transport to the port, freight, insurance, port charges, customs valuation and applicable taxes, clearance and registration. Ask the agent to show the KRA valuation basis and the date of the rates used.

What should you check before paying a deposit?

  • Get the VIN, first-registration record and clear dashboard photos; confirm age and right-hand drive.
  • Obtain written KEBS/inspection-agent confirmation of the Germany route and accepted certificate for that VIN.
  • Arrange an independent mechanical inspection and review service, accident and odometer records.
  • Make the sale terms clear, including who handles export and shipping and what happens if the car fails an import check.
  • Get an itemised landed-cost estimate and verify that the export, invoice, inspection and shipping documents all match the same vehicle.

Frequently asked questions

Can I import a Nissan Juke bought in Germany to Kenya?

Potentially, if that specific Juke meets KRA’s age and right-hand-drive rules and has an inspection route and certificate accepted by KEBS. Confirm all three before you commit.

Does Germany have the same QISJ certificate route as Japan or the UAE?

KEBS’s dedicated QISJ list names six other source markets, not Germany. Because KEBS separately lists SGS in Germany for broader PVoC work, ask KEBS or SGS whether the mandate covers a used-vehicle roadworthiness certificate for your VIN.

Do I need a certificate of origin for a used Juke?

KRA says some used motor vehicles may be exempt from mandatory COO submission. Have your licensed clearing agent confirm the rule for this shipment and keep the separate export declaration or equivalent required for imports from 1 September 2026.
